Chris O’Leary boarded a scheduled flight to New York only to find that there were no other passengers.
A trip aboard an airline typically involves a barrage of irritations ranging from screaming babies to the person in front reclining their seat so much that you can barely move, yet for media strategist Chris O'Leary this week a routine flight home turned in to the complete opposite - a trip with no other passengers at all.

The mix-up occurred when O'Leary turned up to board his flight to New York only to discover that all of the other passengers had been re-booked onto an earlier departure.

"It was definitely the most memorable flight I've been on in recent memory," he said. "All I did was get on a plane I was booked to get on. I just happened to be at the right place at the right time."
After he had boarded the plane the flight attendant, who was quite amused by the whole thing, provided him with his own personal safety demo. "I wouldn't be able to say this, but if there's an evacuation you can probably just follow us to the nearest exit," she said.

Despite the bizarre circumstances however the flight went ahead as scheduled.

This would REALLY be news if they served a hot (edible) meal, and didn't charge for your luggage. Ah, the good old days!

Closest I ever got was a night flight from Florida to Gatwick with only 33 passengers on board a 747. There was this sudden flurry of passengers trying to blag an upgrade which was partially successful, they managed to get into premium economy without the upgraded food and service. So it left my wife and I and another couple with the lower deck to ourselves whilst everyone else was crammed upstairs. Best flight ever.

I was a solo passenger on a Lear jet once. The only downside was that it was only a 45 minute flight. I got invited up to the cockpit and was so amazed I barely had time to finish my beer before I had to strap in and land. I lived the 1%'ers life... for 45 minutes.

I had this same kind of experience when the plane I was to fly was grounded. The airlines managed to reschedule everyone but me. I waited the most of the day but in the end the airlines needed to get the same plane across the country for a flight the next morning. So, I flew with the full crew and even picked the movie. The flight attendants, who are not normally allowed to sit with passengers, and I had a great time sitting and feasting in first class for the flight. Even funnier, when we debarked the plane, I recall a few photo flashes from people who thought I was probably someone of import... [More]
