An amateur photographer has captured the moment a weasel hitched a ride on the back of a woodpecker.
Martin Le-May had been out for a walk with his wife Ann at Hornchurch Country Park in London when they heard what sounded like a distressed squawking noise nearby.

Upon investigating the sound the couple came across one of the most bizarre spectacles they'd ever seen - a woodpecker flying around with a weasel clinging on to its back.

Le-May quickly took out his camera and snapped a photograph.
"I think we may have distracted the weasel as when the woodpecker landed it managed to escape and the weasel ran into the grass," he said. "I'm so proud so many people are getting to see my image. I'm totally taken aback by the response to it."

The incredible photograph of the weasel on the woodpecker's back can be viewed - here.

"This is a truly extraordinary image," said wildlife expert Lucy Cooke. "The green woodpecker is a ground-feeding bird, but weasels normally attack rabbits. The woodpecker is not its usual prey."

Hahaha that sounds like something I would say...but not plausable. The ultra-large apex raptors are gone forever, until we clone them. Anything I've suggested "could" be plausable(BF braiding horse manes or hitching rides on boxcars cross-country to find mates) but that's another topic. Yes absolutely. I'm amazed daily by what the universe offers us

I'd put money on it being a hoax (although not much money). Just don't think the bird could fly with that much weight. i tot woodpecker can bite and carry salmon, which is larger than weasel.

Latest - It brought the internet to a standstill and now the remarkable picture of a woodpecker-riding weasel appears to have its very own sign commemorating the feat of photography.Images have surfaced on Twitter showing a sign in Hornchurch County Park, Havering - the location where the remarkable shot was taken by amateur photographer Martin Le-May. The wording reads: "Home of the woodpecker-riding weasel", with a silhouetted illustration of the two creatures in flight. http://www.telegraph...and-weasel.html

I just thought, somebody can get a shot like that, but nobody can get an infocus shot of a bigfoot or a UFO.
