Now he confirms there was a cover-up over the infamous Roswell alien incident of the 1940s. The former man on the moon found himself in the news regarding remarks he made on the British radio program Kerrang! about believing in alien beings - and the long-rumored UFO crash in Roswell, New Mexico.

Dr Mitchell claims his information on Roswell comes from "old timers".

Walter Haut,the Public Information Officer at the Roswell Army Air Field,signed a sworn statement saying he saw a spacecraft and alien bodies:

I think Dr. Mitchell is a very brave man for stating his beliefs. He is fully aware of the ridicule he will receive and that NASA will be quick to denounce him, yet he said what he knew anyway. This is very important for all believers.

And therein is the key issue - its what Mitchell believes to have happened.

The man has nothing left to lose but his reputation.. why would he even think about such if there weren't any credibility to his claim. I don't necessarily fall for the alien thing, but something like this does make me take a look back and think.

In terms of evidence no. But what he dose bring to the table is confirmation of past confessions about the Roswell incident. He is one more NASA member coming forward and confirming what we should all already know to be true. Alone his account isn't much but when put together with all the other former astronauts admitting there is a cover-up of the existence of aliens, it adds up.

Welcome to U-M! I applaud Edgar Mitchell. I'm curious about your statement (I've bolded it). I wasn't aware of other astronauts admitting a cover-up. Do you have any more info on the subject?

I have to say I am extremely dissapointed. This story has spawned the following headlines

The man holds a Bachelor of Science degree in aeronautical engineering and a Doctor of Science degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics. He has dedicated much of his life to this subject and this is how we thank him? Parade him on headlines to poke fun at what is obviously either a failing memory, no doubt affected by the bizzare raditions encountred in space, which is an environment that plays havoc on the human body. What seems more likely? That an ageing person who has exterted every stress and punishment imaginable on his body for a lifetime may be confusing some facts and memories toward the end of his days, or that the government has been hiding aliens secretively for 60 years in conjunction with every other government on the planet beneath your feet, but cannot get an invoice straight, or raids another country for weapons that are not there? Real efficient? I don't think so. Nobody can crack this efficieny for 60 years? I don't think so. The government is certainly not "Roswell" efficient. Whats this cases backup? Grainy photo's from other cases? Forgive me if I remain unconvinced. This can only tarnish Dr. Mitchells reputation, unless he can produce a Roswell saucer. Somehow I doubt he can.

Shame on the media. Dr. Mitchell deserves better than this.

"NASA does not track UFOs, NASA is not involved in any sort of cover up about alien life on this planet or anywhere in the universe. Dr. Mitchell is a great American, but we do not share his opinions on this issue. Thanks for the opportunity to comment."

Which I feel is at least attempting to preserve the mans dignity. He has brought nothing new to the table, so what was the point? This is all secondhand information. I could have made this "Revelation". Thanks to NASA for attempting to preserve this hero's dignity.
