Junk organs long considered to be expendable may actually serve an important purpose. Organs such as the spleen, appendix and tonsils could all hold very important roles that we simply do not yet fully understand.
Vestigial organs like appendix, spleen, tonsils and various redundant veins, which have long been considered useless, are not really expendable as previously believed, according to researchers.

Let us not forget the foreskin, a multi-layered organ commonly removed at birth. It is now understood that it is huge in fighting infection, exactly the opposite that we have been told for a hundred years! Time to stop the sexual mutilation of our children because of a lack of knowledge on "Junk" organs. "The inside of the foreskin is different than the skin on the rest of the penis. Among other distinctions, the tissue there contains many more cells that are susceptible to HIV infection. Furthermore, the foreskin is susceptible to tears and other infections, which can also increase a man’s ... [More]

It's my understanding that there is no conclusive evidence at all to prove that circumcision reduces the chances of getting STD's. If you have sex with someone who's infected and contagious at the time then, circumcised or not, you're probably going to get one.

Of course they aren't useless. Everything in the human body has a purpose because we were DESIGNED, not accidentally formed from some primordial sludge like scientists want us to believe. There is no such thing as a junk organ in the human body. This is one of those times when it is really hard to tell if someone's joking. I'm going to bet yes, you are joking, and then check your profile. ... Sigh, it looks like I was wrong...

What's that supposed to mean? I fully agree and yes I am a Christian. What you are saying is nothing more than an insult to those that believe other than you. It's a shame that people feel they are in some way superior and look down their noses at others. I have always known that everything inside us is there for a reason. When a Ferrari engine is rebuilt do they have extra parts and just leave them out? That's b... [More]

It's a shame that people feel they are in some way superior and look down their noses at others. OMG! I insulted everyone who completely disagrees with the accepted facts of the scientific community?! I'm so sorry! I have always known that everything inside us is there for a reason. Ahh, that explains it. You must have a Biology degree from Harvard, and you've obviously published several pieces in Nature. When a Ferrari engine is rebuilt... [More]

There is no such thing as a junk organ in the human body. your answer appears to be based on purely logic. you're right, only to certain extents however. but evolution does take place and some organs or limbs simply are no longer necessary. some more examples for humans, our goose bumps (we no longer have thick fur), our tail bones, male nipples, human fetuses' gill slits. some other examples on the top of my... whales and their hind-legs (their ancestors were dog-like creatures i think) Not exactly, but I get what you meant. They are from the order Cetartiodactyla, along with Deer, camels, pigs. Even-toed ungulates.
