Italian scientists who have been able to reproduce an effect with the same characteristics as the Shroud of Turin in an experiment have claimed their research demonstrates that the shroud is indeed a hoax.
The Shroud of Turin has been reproduced, according to Italian scientists, who claimed their experiment proved that the linen some Christians revere as Jesus's burial cloth is a medieval fake.

The vatican's full of crap. Not commenting on the authenticity of the shroud at all makes them "full of crap"?

Not commenting on the authenticity of the shroud at all makes them "full of crap"? And that's the truth... the Vatican has never confirmed nor denied the authenticity of the shroud and have left it up to others to decide what they will. What's annoying is that the Vatican will no longer allow anyone to study it. That is crap.

The thing that gets me is the image looks Northern European, not Middle Eastern. I hold to the theory that it's the image of a Frankish Crusader who was tortured in the fashion that Christ was. Lapiche

Lapiche I think that's a very plausible scenario... but we'll never know because the Vatican will never allow it to be studied again... what a shame. I've always thought it looked northern European too. And JC, as we all know, wasn't a caucasian dude.

If it was real the Vatican would allow RC scientists to test and confirm it. That would be worlwide headlines of a positive kind for them. The fact that they won't let a scientist anywhere near it speaks volumes.

It Looked like this little Lebanese guy I went to Friends School with. Lapiche

It is so illogical in the first place to think that a cloth draped around a body could leave such a perfect impression.

It is so illogical in the first place to think that a cloth draped around a body could leave such a perfect impression. People just don't get that.

Owing mainly to the researches of Canon Ulysse Chevalier a series of documents was discovered which clearly proved that in 1389 the Bishop of Troyes appealed to Clement VII, the Avignon Pope then recognized in France, to put a stop to the scandals connected to the Shroud preserved at Lirey. It was, the Bishop declared, the work of an artist who some years before had confessed to having painted it but it was then being exhibited by the Canons of Lirey in such a way that the populace believed that it was the authentic shroud of Jesus Christ. The pope, without absolutely prohibiting the exhibitio... [More]

If the shroud was real it would have had this effect and no other:
