Alien life is possible: Vatican By Barney Porter for The World Today Posted Fri Nov 13, 2009 5:21pm AEDT The Pope's chief astronomer has conceded other intelligent beings could exist in outer space. The conclusion has been drawn by scientific experts called in by the Vatican to study the possibility of extraterrestrial life and its implications for the Church. It has been four centuries since the Catholic Church locked up Galileo for challenging the belief that the Earth was at the centre of the universe. The Vatican's five-day conference attracted 30 astronomers, physicists and biologists, in... [More]

Always kept an open mind on the topic & possibilities of ufology-X-science-X-spirituality, but i don't think there's much more off putting than seeing organized religion (Christianity/Catholicism) raising it's ugly head and jumping the bandwagon. What's their angle...They should stick to what they know & been doing best for centuries; irrational beliefs, power grabs, greedy ministers, creating fear, ignorance, child abuse, cover-ups, suppression of knowledge, esoteric if ya like(?), etc etc. ''The Vatican Observatory has been at the forefront of efforts to bridge the gap between religi... This might be true in your belief structure, but this is not true of all catholics! How ironic. You say that, and then you wade in with this treat for all fans of huge sweeping generalisations. The whole 'Adam and Eve' thing still flies with a great many Roman Catholics, and I know of those being literally chased off peoples property trying to sell the Encyclopia Brittanica, largely due to its contents on Science and Dinosaurs! You are obviously more enlightened, but your beliefs do not permeate all followers of your faith. In general Catholics in my experience are some of the most backward thi... [More]

Wow! They said the same thing back in May of 2008. Thanks for the news flash Mr. Pope Ex-Nazi and your Vatican buddies! We are now allowed to believe in Extraterrestrials. Now that is a huge leap forwards! Are we allowed to fully believe in dinosaurs yet? How about atoms? Or gravity? Back in 1988 the forward thinking Pope John Paul II said we were now allowed to believe that the Earth was round because he finally accepted it as reality and fact. A similar thing happened 4 years later when the geneus Pope John Paul II told us we were allowed to believe that the Earth revolved around the Sun sim... [More]

Eh, I'm just worried about the damage caused by people who refuse to believe anything until an old guy in a funny hat that wears dresses tells them it's ok. Nibs

AM I the only one who finds it odd that the church says to it's congregation, it's possible to believe in extraterretrial life and activity. BUT still doesn't condone their congregation something basic such as using condoms?

Eh, I'm just worried about the damage caused by people who refuse to believe anything until an old guy in a funny hat that wears dresses tells them it's ok. Nibs ...yes...that's a worry for sure! AM I the only one who finds it odd that the church says to it's congregation, it's possible to believe in extraterretrial life and activity. BUT still doesn't condone their congregation something basic such as using condoms? Yes: just one of the many strange things that exist when religion and science meet....
