Surgeons in Bangalore have demonstrated the process of open heart surgery while the patient is still wide awake.
Doctors at the hospital believe that keeping the patient awake is safer and less invasive, the patient is able to react and respond to requests which makes the procedure easier to perform for surgeons.
As the patient is awake the doctors also have a better idea of how the body is reacting to the surgery from their respiratory system to their brain function. Dr Jawali added that patients did not report feeling afraid during the operation.
