Saltwater crocodiles surf ocean currents

Scientists have discovered that saltwater crocodiles manage to travel hundreds of miles by surfing ocean currents.
The world's largest living reptiles the saltwater crocodiles hitch a ride on the waves and travel vast distances across open seas. Up until now the fact that these relatively poor swimmers had managed to spread to so many isolated islands had been something of a mystery.
Saltwater crocodiles, the world's largest living reptiles, travel hundreds of miles and cross large areas of open sea by surfing ocean currents, scientists have discovered.

The article states that they arn't great swimmers. From what I have seen there pretty darn good at it.

Too bad that's only a CGI simulation. I would be curious to see a real instance caught on video, but I don't think that's likely unless underwater.

i wonder how many altercations occur between these crocs and larger sharks? That's always been a non-issue to most people, assuming that if they did encounter one another it would be in shallow water and the shark would have little chance against a croc. I'd bet out to sea it would be exactly the opposite though. According to the research the crocs are using surface currents. White sharks strike from below. So if they did encounter one another, I'd bet a white shark could mess a croc up pretty bad on the initial hit. Assuming the initial hit isn't just a taste test to see what the hell that th...
