Ghostly fakery in the 19th century

Back in the days before Photoshop hoaxers relied on alternative ways to fake ghost photographs.
In the 19th century hoaxers such as William Hope created numerous ghost photographs having discovered how to effectively produce double exposures facilitating faces superimposed on top of the picture.
Back in the early days of photography, Hope discovered how to double-expose photos to make it seem like spirits were hovering next to people. He would superimpose a face on top of the original photo, and the result was quite startling.

Just in time for Halloween comes a collection of spooky photos from beyond the grave. Well, not exactly. They're blatant fakes. But folks didn't know that when they first came out in the 19th century. And, even now, the collection of creepy pics from photographer/huckster William Hope is well worth a look. http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_newsroom/20101028/od_yblog_newsroom/in-photos-ghostly-fakery-before-there-was-photoshop Those are really cool! Similar to the William Mumler photos, but these are cooler IMO

What a trip... Those are really well done fakes. No wonder so many people believed in supernatural things back then.

Here's a great collection of "spirit photography" from the American Museum of Photography.

This thread worth signing on to just for a look at Persia's avatar. (I think that's a reincarnation of one of my former felines.) LOL Those pics are actually pretty creepy, I've seen worse fakes fool people today.

I personally think that these photos were very well done considering the technology of the time. I've seen worse fakes done with Photoshop in this day and age.
