Scientists grow monster dragonflies

Scientists have raised super-size dragonflies in a controlled high-oxygen environment.
The experiment demonstrates one of the reasons insects would have grown so large 300 million years ago when the atmosphere contained 50 percent more oxygen than it does today.
Biologists have grown super-size dragonflies that are 15 percent larger than normal by raising the insects, from start to finish, in chambers emulating Earth’s oxygen conditions 300 million years ago.

The next step is to take a fast breeding lizard and raise a couple generations of them in an oxygen rich atmosphere. Feed them the large dragonflies and see what happens. Jurassic park? I dont think this process is evolution because its effects are immediate even in a currently live specimen. The effect would also cease the moment offspring were returned to a normal oxygen enviroment. Although in principle I think we could flood the Millenium Dome with a high oxygen atmosphere and produce lizards the size of buses. Bring on Godzilla!

I wonder if a human could move in WITH the dragonflies? (With a large habitat of course.) Would the extra oxygen kill us? Nibs

I wonder if a body part is put in an oxygen compartment it would become bigger, like an arm or a leg or a? Sorry tiger, it doesn't work that way. They did the high oxygen experiment with roaches and although their trachea volume changed their body size didn't. Which could mean that there is more to prehistoric insects size than just oxygen volume. I would like to see something like this done over many generations (insect generations, not ours ) to see if over time the insects grow even larger, as in closer to their prehistoric cousins.

Jurassic park? sorry dinos were not lizards, they may have been warm blooded at least some of them. YES!! Soon we can have dragonflies to ride around on! this will not have any negitive consequences in the future at all. only if you ride them inside the high o2 lab. but that might kill you. o2 is a poison,
