Kazakhstan's president has urged scientists to concentrate their efforts on finding a cure for ageing.
70-year-old Nursultan Nazarbayev said in a statement - "as for the medicine of the future, people of my age are really hoping all of this will happen as soon as possible." It is the third time in the space of a year that he has urged scientists to seek a way to keep death at bay.
Cleopatra may have bathed in asses' milk to preserve her youth but Nursultan Nazarbayev, the autocratic president of Kazakhstan, wants nothing less than an elixir of life to keep him going.

Nazarbayev has been boss of Kazakhstan ever since the USSR collapsed in 1991. He was supposedly next in line to be boss of the Soviet Union after Gorbachev, but ended up with Kazakhstan as a consolution prize. It's a gangster/mafia republic like Russia itself, and Nazarbayev is president for life. Evidently he's planning to stick around as long as possible. This is my great fear with life extension: that all kinds of dictators, aristocrats, gangsters, celebrities, the rich and powerful in general will try to keep themselves alive forever. We won't even be able to get rid of them through the de... [More]

Ok, good luck with that not like anyone worth less than a couple hundred billion dollars would ever see it anyway Yeah I agree, This would certainly make life a commodity that one can purchase and extend. This could certainly create very big social issues and gaps between different levels of society unless they provide it at a rate that everyone can afford or less unlikely free.

When did death become a democracy? I'm pretty sure that the population doesn't vote for who dies when :| It is democratic in the sense that everyone has equal status in death, no matter how much money then had when alive, which is definitely not the case with birth.

if we were immortals then no deaths would mean the population wouldn't settle down...it'd constantly grow with new births and then all kinds of trouble starts.

If man could extend his life span to say two, three houndred years, you'll probably find that most people would want to chuck in the towell after about 200. You can be subject to, and witness alot of suffering in that space of time. Not too uplifting when your still trapped in an old persons body.
