SetiQuest Explorer is currently in a private beta stage and will be available on the iPhone this summer.
"We want to tap into the brain power of the world," says SETI director Jill Tarter. While the long-running SETI@Home project uses the spare computing power on people's computers to help process data the new application is designed to enable amateur astronomers to help with tasks that are not easy to accomplish with computers such as visual image recognition.
The Seti@Home project run by the University of California at Berkeley is harnessing unused computer processing power to help crunch the data coming from outer space.
