Some scientists believe we are experiencing a mass extinction equal to that which killed the dinosaurs.
Scientists at UC Berkeley believe we are at the beginning stages of a sixth man-made period of mass extinction that could wipe out three quarters of the planet's species over the next three hundred years.
Earth's creatures are on the brink of a sixth mass extinction, comparable to the one that wiped out the dinosaurs. That's the conclusion of a new study, which calculates that three-quarters of today's animal species could vanish within 300 years.
