Some scientists believe we are experiencing a mass extinction equal to that which killed the dinosaurs.
Scientists at UC Berkeley believe we are at the beginning stages of a sixth man-made period of mass extinction that could wipe out three quarters of the planet's species over the next three hundred years.
Earth's creatures are on the brink of a sixth mass extinction, comparable to the one that wiped out the dinosaurs. That's the conclusion of a new study, which calculates that three-quarters of today's animal species could vanish within 300 years.

When the first humans came over across the straight and down into the greater North American continent they hunted the various species into extinction. Apparently horses actually got their wee beginnings here in the Americas, and spread over to the other places via that same land bridge. My linkMy link I'd get into it, but I'm off my game due to coming down with something. lol oy summer brings the seasonal rhinoplague. (cold) the mormons knew about the horses long before science did. megafuana are megafuana due to their size not time period. whales, elephants, and bison are all megafuana.

I thought you said they don't like being called that? *snorts* Your post here.. is so full of wrong. They did not know about it. However thanks for proving me right, as always, completely ignoring what you asked for because it doesn't suit your skewed "mormon" vision. This alone makes me done discussion it further with you.

What about the bees, bats, frogs, salamanders and on and on. If there is no trunk in the tree of life will it really take 300 years? I don't think so. Seems to be here now. The large animals will be the most noticeable....at first.

The large animals will be the most noticeable....at first. the frogs with multi legs, may be a parasite infection. there is one parasite that disables the frog so it can be eaten by a higher animal such as a fox, where the parasite matures and lays its eggs which then start the process over with ants. which may be eaten by the parent frog. and since there is a thread on this on here i am not going to link it since i don't k... the mormons knew about the horses long before science did. So far this statement is the only one ever on this site to make me say "...what?" out loud. Mormonism wasn't founded until the 1820's. I am just so full of what right now I don't know what to do with it. Just....what?

Mormons did not know that horses used to exist in the prehistoric times on the american continents. And of course the Aztecs wouldn't know a horse when they saw them during the times of Spanish invasion... the prehistoric horse ancestors were wiped out by their prehistoric ancestors.

I believe they mean.. since the dinosaurs (who died in some other manner) Every other extinction has happened since Man evolutionary steps. Humans wiped out a number of the megafaunas, a huge number of birds in New Zealand and other pacific islands.. Wiped out dolphin species.. Various animals from Australia.. The extinction of Pleistocene megafauna cannot be attributed to just one cause, especially not human hunting alone. Temperature and climate change probably affected those species more than the miniscule number of homo-sapiens that existed on the planet in those days.

Temperature and climate change probably affected those species more than the miniscule number of homo-sapiens that existed on the planet in those days. One cause? No. However there is a distinct line that can be followed that their extinction sped up the moment humans were introduced into various areas that previous had none. Perfect examples is the Moas and Haast's Eagles of New Zealand. Humans arrived to the islands, hunted out the Moas. There was no environmental effects betwe... [More]
