An old light bulb first used in 1901 is still working today after being in use for over 110 years.
The bulb has been a staple of fire stations in Livermore, California for more than a century and the longest its ever been turned off for is only one week. It was originally created by Adolphe Chailet, a rival of Thomas Edison. Nowadays the bulb has its own fan club and some visitors travel thousands of miles to come and view it for themselves.
While the average hardware store light bulb lasts only 1,000 hours, this bright bulb has lasted 110 years. . . proving once again that they 'don't make them like they used to'. On June 18, the world's oldest-known working light bulb reaches another milestone, and will begin its 110th year of operation.

Amazing that it's made it through storms, possible power surges, brown outs, etc. That bulb sure is a champ!

That is very cool, Maybe its the shape of the filament that keeps it on?

No interruptions to power supply all that time ? I think that is hard to believe.

I remember reading about that in a local paper years ago when they moved it to a new fire station(if it's the one I'm thinking of). They cut out the entire fixture and wired it into their new building.

They cut out the entire fixture and wired it into their new building. Hmmm, really when ya think about it, it didn't burn continuously then? If the electrician in question who replaced the fixture without turning it off could loose their license pulling a stunt like that. If Light bulbs could really last that long then why with all the "Recycling, Save power & money" blah blah of Saving the Earth"you'd think with the mass production involved to meet the worlds... If Light bulbs could really last that long then why with all the "Recycling, Save power & money" blah blah of Saving the Earth"you'd think with the mass production involved to meet the worlds needs some one would re-invent a bulb that does actually last! Unless they have actual unbroken video footage of this 110 year old continuously powered bulb, I find It hard to believe!
