Human ancestor older than thought

Scientists now believe homo erectus and modern humans never co-existed in the distant past.
Up until now it was believed that homo erectus still survived alongside modern humans until as recently as 35,000 years ago, but now new studies have revealed that the species died out long before homo sapiens arrived on the scene.
Modern humans never co-existed with Homo erectus -- a finding counter to previous hypotheses of human evolution -- new excavations in Indonesia and dating analyses show. The research, reported in the journal PLoS ONE, offers new insights into the nature of human evolution, suggesting a different role for Homo erectus than had been previously thought.

Quite the opposite Oakum. It opens more opportunities for more new discovery. @Hellskitties: Because only the strong survive. It is still a possibility imo that individual (micro)evolution happens fastest when the furthest extremes of two healthy, compatible genepools merge, producing a better, more resilient animal.

But there are plenty of examples of different types of the same species co-existing. You'd think at least one other hominid would have survived along side of us to the present day.

Oh when shall the poor world finally be rid of these incredibly inane Darwinian fundamentalist twits?! I suggest they all take their heads out of their asses and start to use their friggin brains for something other than the ubiquitous Darwinian just-so story telling speculations they always try to pass off as facts. Genetic entropy alone trashes the whole Darwinian scenario. Information theory comes along and cleans up the mess a century and a half of Darwinist stupidity has left us. Oh but no, never in a million years will any Darwinian fundamentalist admit the salient errors of their inane ... [More]

yeah no evidence. No fossils, no molecular biology, no genes, nothing. Again, all this shows is that Homo Erectus existed at this location at an older time and did not interact directly with modern homosapiens... so? As for Fred Hoyle, he made a few mistakes: # They calculate the probability of the formation of a "modern" protein, or even a complete bacterium with all "modern" proteins, by random events. This is not the abiogenesis theory at all. # They assume that there is a fixed number of proteins, with fixed sequences for each protein, that are required for life. # They calculate the proba... Yes, finally, fellow members of the "Darwin is wrong, Lamarck is right!" brigade! I knew some of y'all existed! Darwin has completely eclipsed other theories that are just as legitimate for explaining the world! As Jean-Baptiste Lamarck said, a giraffe only got it's long neck because earlier proto-giraffe's stretched their necks. This explains much of our world to a T and it has influenced architecture and design as a whole! I'd like to see some no good rotten Darwinist influence these things! Yes, Darwin knew nothing. I, as an armchair amateur scientist who sees the world every time I turn th... [More]

I think it is funny how the article goes from... From the OP Link... Modern humans never co-existed with Homo erectus to... The analyses suggest that Homo erectus was gone by at least 143,000 years ago Thus, Homo erectus probably did not share habitats with modern humans Goes from NEVER, to Suggests, to Probably. I kept reading to see where they were going to toss in Maybe and Perhaps.

The reason modern man and homo erectus didn't coexist in the same manner as modern man and apes is because homo erectus devolved separately into Republicans.
