Car manufacturers are producing bigger cars to accommodate the growingly obese population.
Over the last 10 years Honda has widened its seats by 2 inches and plans changes to buttons for those with "sausage fingers". Mercedes has strengthened its grab handles above the doors and Porsche is adding a feature which automatically raises the steering wheel when the engine is switched off. But are these necessary changes or are manufacturers taking things too far ?
Typical family cars have become more than a foot wider and almost double the weight over the past 50 years as manufacturers struggle with the world’s obesity crisis. Consequently some luxury manufacturers have begun road-testing the next generation of larger-sized vehicles. Officials say will allow bigger people to maintain their comfort on the road.
