Woman glues her own mouth shut

In a bizarre accident a woman in New Zealand accidentally managed to glue her lips together.
The peculiar incident occurred when the 64-year-old reached for her dry lip medication while in bed and instead picked up a tube of superglue. She soon found that she was unable to open her mouth at all and was forced to call an ambulance. Dispatchers responding to the call believed she had been gagged because of the limited sounds she was able to make.

"She got up in the middle of the night, in the dark, and grabbed what she thought was the tube of medication," said Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken. "It was an extremely frightening event for her because her breathing was impeded. I've heard of a few other things super-glued, but never lips."
The 111 call, about midnight yesterday, sparked fears that the 64-year-old from Dunedin was being held captive, but it turned out she had accidentally super-glued her lips together.

How did she manage to give the hospital her address? Morse code. Really, though, just a "hang-up" with or without a previous "muffled voice" will cause a police response. At least in the US.

Lucky she wasn't intending on using KY jelly instead of lip balm. ...ouch - I bet that will have been embarrassing to get sorted .

A tube of glue would come in handy while trying to watch a movie on tv with the wife.

Once upon a time I was a lad of only 5. I superglued my left eye closed. My mom was furious. My eye was glued closed for about a week. Every night I'd have to soak it with a warm washcloth. But at least I was a child!

An embarrassing related situation of mine.. as a teen I did a lot of plastic models and on occasion used super glue for smaller surfaces. Well as we all know that glue can do, the lid got a bit stuck. So in my wisdom (teenager, remember?) I put the cap in my teeth to hold it, turned it, however instead of opening, the metal tube ruptured and got some glue on my front teeth and bottom lip. My teeth momentarily tried to stick together and due to the moisture on my lip it immediately hardened. I very carefully used a bit of polish remover to brush it loose on my teeth and wiped my lips. So I feel... [More]
