This week we're reviewing "Captured! The Betty and Barney Hill UFO Experience", a new book written by physicist and popular figure in the UFO scene Stanton Friedman, and Kathleen Marden, the niece of Betty Hill and who for ten years was a director of the Mutual UFO Network MUFON. The book covers the Barney and Betty Hill abduction case in great detail, Marden's own personal involvement in the case and with being close to Betty Hill has helped her to write a true account of the events that occurred in the world's most well known alien abduction case.
The general story is likely familiar to anyone with an interest in UFOs, the Hills had been driving along the back roads of New Hampshire's White Mountain region on the night of September 19th, 1961. They had spotted an unusual light in the sky, which they initially believed to be a satellite or aeroplane, but which appeared to move in a way which defied the capabilities of any conventional aircraft. They stopped at the side of the road to take a better look through binoculars but were still unable to determine what the object was. It wasn't until they turned a corner and observed a disc shaped craft hovering above the road in front of them that they realised exactly how anomalous this object actually was. As they stopped the car Barney got out and proceeded to walk towards the craft as it hovered over some nearby woods. Placing the binoculars to his eyes he observed rows of windows and what appeared to be figures walking around inside. Becoming suddenly aware of the danger they were in he managed to tear himself away from the sight and head back to the car which he'd left running. In shock, the couple drove off along the road to get away from the mysterious object, what happened next however was never clear in their minds. The next thing they knew they were driving towards home but with an apparent period of missing time, arriving home far later then they should have. What happened during those missing hours ? Later under hypnosis, the Hills recalled experiences with alien captors which remain one of the most detailed accounts of an alien abduction experience every told.
"Captured!" is a detailed and compelling account of the Hill's amazing story, everything is here in incredible detail; the Hill's back-story, the encounter, the reports made by those who investigated it and very detailed accounts of the hypnosis sessions in which their experiences were revealed. Nothing is missed out, all the evidence from the strange circular polished spots on the Hills' car which they found to have unusual magnetic properties, to the tear in Betty's dress which was created when one of her captors struggled to undo the zip during the examination are covered and analysed here in great detail.
This is one of the best UFO books we've read for some time and we'd recommend it to anyone interested in the phenomenon. Whether you are already convinced that these events took place as the Hills describe them or are somewhat skeptical to the whole thing the book should still provide a compelling read.
