In the not too distant future parents will have the chance to customise their unborn baby any way they see fit, everything from immunity to certain diseases to picking the color of their hair will be offered for the ultimate 'designer baby'.
For just an extra few thousand dollars, women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) could one day choose to have a baby boy with perfect vision, an aptitude for sports and a virtual lock on avoiding colon cancer.

I hope I'm not the only one who thinks this is wrong... i think its wrong to choose a child based on eye, skin or hair colour.. but if you can eradicate genetic problems then i for one, have no problem what so ever with it.. its infact being done now.. it is very costly.. but for a person who has a high chance of passing on a genetic condition who wants a child, and is 'normal' in every other way.. then it is a god-send i am lobbying our local govt for help at the moment, as i am a person who has a high change of passing on a genetic condition.. i cannot afford the ivf treatment let alone pgd.... I'm sure this would have definite advantages health-wise...but I can just picture a bunch of 4th graders huddled at recess making fun of the "non-perfect" kids..."look at her, she's so 7 years ago"

Even now when everyone is born natural we stil get really ugly kids. And they're teased by the better looking kids. As humans we will always find something to gossip aobut in another person.

Sounds like a stepping stone (conditioning) approach to mandatory Eugenics?

I don't think you people have to worry about it. As shown by the posts in this thread, the people who approve of it are still a minority. However, If I ever had a designer baby, I'd design him to be the perfect warrior. Let's see all your blue eyed, blond haired sissy boys deal with that

Good thing that wasn't happening in the 60s....can you imagine all the craziness that would be running around? It's bad enough what the people with too much money and questionable brain power do to their kids already

I have a feeling that nature will stop us in our tracks from creating perfect babies. Somewhere along the line human meddling has always backfired and so it will be with creating perfect human beings. There are some things we just shouldn't touch. I guess they would call that the Frankenstein age.

Thoughts: It's so obvious that this is coming up in the near future that there's no point in resisting it. Soon we'll have breeds of humans, like we do with dogs. Yuck. When my grand daughter was born a few years ago one of my thoughts was, "I wonder if this is the last generation in my family in which babies will be 100% the genetic result of two people loving each other". I wonder if people will look much more generic after that's gone on for a while. I feel bad for kids being born now. These are some bizzare times, and it isnt getting any better. I feel bad for kids being born now. These are some bizzare times, and it isnt getting any better. In 100 years there wont be sexes, everyone will be the same, and if you call someone a man or women, you'll go to jail because you offended someone because you suggested difference. Ouch! I Legend...sup? We Robots...future.
