Iron Man-style suits in development

Power armour like that worn by Iron Man Tony Stark may soon be a regular sight on the battlefield.
Technology firm Raytheon Sarcos are currently developing the XOS2 suit that allows the wearer to lift 70kg with little effort and punch through multiple planks of wood at once. The firm hope that the suit will be used in actual war zones within 3 to 5 years.
Iron Man-style power suits which make the wearer vastly stronger will be used by soldiers in war zones in the next five years, according to a firm developing them.

The evolution of war is frightening and at an alarming rate too.

I love Iron Man I am in love with a man made of metal. LOL. I would love to fly in one of those suits. You'll never see this on the battlefield or in commercial use, its just not cost effective. No, but if I have the money, I will buy one of those suits.

When he breaks the wood, he does it the same way as those "master" martial art folks, he breaks it with the grain and not against it, so that part isnt really impressive at all imo.

You'll never see this on the battlefield or in commercial use, its just not cost effective. That was my thought, too. Our troop don't even have the body armor we have now, or the armored vehicles. I got some friends in wheel chairs who could use something like that, but I don't think they could afford them either.

I'm thinking warhammer 40k space marines more than Iron Man. But for the might of the God-Emperor and his angles of death! The first step!

We are human, war has always existed and will always be. Just part of being animal.

Strength is fine, but until they put a quarter inch thick kevlar skin over it, it will not stop troops from getting shot.

Isn't that what they said about planes, cameras, phones, computers and the internet at one time or another? Strength is fine, but until they put a quarter inch thick kevlar skin over it, it will not stop troops from getting shot. Just from their admittedly enthusastic time scale, they have 5 years to figure that out. From a more practical one, ten to twenty. And armies are inefficient because of bureacracy. They all are. But, that same bureacracy is what makes them as efficient at logistics as they are, so of course, there's a limit to what can be done. Wars will never disappear. You get more ... [More]

Cool! It can do push-ups lift 200 lbs speed-ball & break a 3'' block of wood...
