Can gyms generate their own power ?

Its an idea that isn't actually all that new, using exercise equipment in gyms to generate electricity.
The Green Microgym in Portland, Ore. is one such gym, it uses specially designed exercise equipment that converts the pedal power of gym-goers in to electricity and then channels it in to the power outlets.
The Green Microgym in Portland, Ore. , has all the usual stuff you'd expect — sweaty people, thump-thumping music, sleek exercise equipment — but it has some extras as well. Everywhere you look, there are power cords.
