Details have emerged of an old UFO report presented by Thomas Jefferson before he was president.
The report itself was written by the naturalist William Dunbar and presented to the American Philosophical Society by Jefferson who was at the time its president ( and Vice President of the United States ). The incident occured in 1800.
A phenomenon was seen to pass Baton Rouge on the night of the 5th April 1800, of which the following is the best description I have been able to obtain. It was first seen in the South West, and moved so rapidly, passing over the heads of the spectators, as to disappear in the North East in about a quarter of a minute. It appeared to be of the size of a large house, 70 or 80 feet long and of a form nearly resembling Fig. 5. in Plate, iv.

Yeah it seems as a meteor ,, But "Unfortunately, the plate referred to is missing." this thing makes me think twice because it seems that they are trying to hide some facts.

The deion of the path and the color both lead to a meteor. Sure the size deions may be off a bit, but how acurate are they really when looking up in the sky quite a distance away. I think he did a pretty good job of describing the path it took, the time of day and the color. That would be the best that anyone can hope for at the time.

This sounds like a meteor to me. The noise it made, the 'earthquake', and burnt vegetation, seem to point in that direction. It does seem as though there should be other reports concerning this event somewhere.

It sounds like an Earth-grazing meteor to me. I agree.

Got to say the most obvious thing that came to my mind was stellar matter of some sort, be it a meteorite or other debris. Still it is interesting and could quite easily have been something completely different. Good article.

Well the article says the ground was broken up and the local area burned or scorched. It could have been some time before they found the site itself, 1800 was not travel friendly. With out the mention of wreakage, or even rock mass make me lean toward a comet type near earth explosion or impact. It is possible it could have been something like a crashed craft, tho I find no way to really explore it as an idea beyond speculation. The idea of meteors itself was hard for people to belive, and know they were not projectiles from an angry God as we'll. I can barely imagine any one of them trying to... [More]

Jimmy Carter reported seeing a UFO too. In the 70s. And when jimmy Carter became president, he tried to obtain UFO files and documents, but was turned down by another person who would eventually become president, George Bush, Sr.

Jimmy Carter reported seeing a UFO too. In the 70s. It was in the same part of the sky that Venus was, which he did not remember seeing.

Probably meteorite or comet fragment. Just joking about flying saucer. I don't think an advanced civilisation capable of such technology, would come all this way just to crash onto the Earth. Seems highly unlikely.
