Near-death experiences on the rise

Its one of the most enduring questions of all time - just what does happen when we die ?
In ABC's "Beyond Belief: Near Death Experiences" survivors who have had a close encounter with death share what they saw. Houston therapist Mary Jo Rapini described a pinkish glow and heard God tell her to go back after suffering a brain aneurysm in 2003. News anchor Bob Woodruff was in Iraq when his vehicle hit a bomb, he says he saw his body floating below him and a bright white light.
An increasing number of near death experiences, or NDEs, are being reported thanks to advances in medical science and increased resuscitations of the dead. And several survivors have come forward to share their glimpses of what they believe is a realm beyond this life.

When we die our ego is annihilated so we can see the universal absolute as our true nature. We are now then freed from this self created illusion. We as the universal absolute can now choose to create new manifestations inside consciousness so we reincarnate, but there is no separation between individual consciousnesses. Before your birth your ego didn't exist but you already existed as all other living creatures. After your death, you will exist as all other creatures. This is your current condition, but your ego prevents you from seeing it. If you want to read more on the subject, you can re... [More]

Of course, there is an hypothesis. There's always an hypothesis. I prefer to refer to my psych professor who is very adamant that science has no firm grasp on what consciousness is, nor where it comes from. If there was, I'm sure he would know about it. He told me so. I believe him. He is a Doctor of Psychology, after all. One way he demonstrated this concept was....he got us to envision our bodies moving from one spot to another, one particle at a time. Then he asked us to pinpoint the moment when 'we'(consciousness) move from the original spot, to the new one. Of course we can't pinpoint tha... [More]

I think near death experiences probably have a biological cause, one possibility being chemicals from the pineal gland being released during or after trauma. I'm not saying there isn't a possibility of life after death, just that I think NDE aren't anything supernatural. Don't agree, if that were true, then NDE studies would not continue to grow and their effects would diminish, this is not happening. I don't think this is because of wishful thinking. There are times when I am glad that I will face extinction at death. An afterlife does not mean that it will be pleasant for everyone. doug

I've no great ego now, but am a firm believer that we create our own reality in this live and more so in the next possibly multiplied. I look forward to reading your work on the subject! Open slate with no bias at birth then influenced through surroundings is a given. I get the theory that we are one in death ' short version of your analysis' haven't read your paper yet In my crappy words please take no offense! I still would like to think a person/ soul takes there conscious be it known or ignored can finally see.

No disrespect to your psych professor, but there are other notable scientists - also Doctors in their fields of study - who suggest we do know what consciousness is. See here. Of course, there are different definitions of consciousness. For example, there is the consciousness which is the state of cognitive awareness provided by our primary senses, translated through our Central Nervous System. This state can be rendered dysfunctional by trauma affecting the CNS, when you are knocked unconscious, for example. Then there is the 'consciousness', which I suspect is what you are referring to, whic... [More]

NDE studies will never prove anything soon unfortunately. Some levels of science will continue to be and will always be theory in our lifetime.

That hurt and was very traumatic for me! ;-) ok but seriously, I have never heard from anyone that I know who went thru serious trauma & did not lose conscienceless state they ... [More]
