67-year-old Peter Glazebrook smashed the previous record with his 17lbs 15 and a half ounce vegetable.
Glazebrook has been growing huge vegetables for years, breaking 10 world records over three decades. The record-breaking onion took him over 25 years worth of attempts to get right.
It was enough to bring a tear to every gardener’s eye yesterday as pensioner Peter Glazebrook set a new record for the world’s heaviest onion.

I'd use one half for a Bloomin' Onion. The other to whip up a vat of French Onion soup! I do have to wonder if being so large will affect the flavor though. I know large zucchini are tougher than the smaller ones. Wonder if the onions are the same?
