A pub cellar(think it was a pub) in York was one of the famous ones. When it was being renovated a legion of Roman Soldiers allegedly walked through the walls but only from the torso up.When they dug further down they apparently found the old Roman Road at about the level where the legions feet would have been...if it was a pub though alcohol could have been involved.... I have several DVDs of some 1990s British TV series about ghosts and one episode featured the York Roman soldiers. A man was interviewed and he said he was in the cellar of this old building. He was a workman doing some work in the cellar and so hadn't been drinking. The building was built on top of a Roman road, I think, and the remains of the Roman road were partially excavated in the cellar. This guy was in the cellar up some step ladders when he heard the distant sound of a horn blowing. At first he thought a person was playing music somewhere outside. But the noise grew louder and louder ... [More]

Not so interesting as I thought it would be.. This article is too scarce on information for me to pass a judgment on a case Agreed. There's just not any indication about if this could be suggestion. What were they told beforehand? It's just too sketchy to even be a news item. Surely with all those youngsters there, there must be some footage on mobile phones of the building? Even if it's just of the building before it all happened

Yeah thats the one...dont know where i got pub from(maybe its on my mind)....thanks for that.... I've had a look at the details of the story and the incident occurred way back in 1953. Harry Martindale, an apprentice plumber, was installing a heating system in the cellars of the beautiful Treasurer's House in York when he saw a group of Roman legionaries marching past led by a man blowing a horn, an incident which terrified him. The house was built on top of a Roman road and Harry saw the soldiers marching along the road, parts of which could be seen in the cellar. It was as though it was a "v... [More]

Hya Brian, Yep I was convinced it was a pub in York. I dont know exactly when it happened, but I was sure it had happened in a pub too. Maybe it was a similar tale we both heard. After all, York is rumored to have many hauntings. I'm pretty sure the roman soldiers were seen by many people over a period of time. It wasn't just a one off event. Yeah i always thought it was a pub..i know that there is a very alleged haunted pub in York cause Ive been in it.Think its called the Fleece. Its a very narrow place with sloping floors that make you stagger like a drunk before you have even had a drink...... A friend of my daughters went on one of the ghost tours. She said it was really creepy but she didnt see anything. She worked in the fleece for a while and hated going into the cellar. She didnt see anything. Does it still have piccies up on the walls showing people who may have died there? I know there are rooms you can rent but dont know how much it costs. A pub with a floor that slopes. Wouldnt be best place to get drunk would it
