Workers film peculiar blowhole in the desert

Workmen in Saudi Arabia were left scratching their heads when sand started erupting from the ground.
Footage of the phenomenon shows the workers using a digger truck to shift large amounts of sand only for it to suddenly shoot hundreds of feet up in to the air and back down on their heads.

The men can be seen repeatedly attempting to fill in the hole only to be met with the same result.

The video, which has been generating a lot of interest on social media, can be viewed below.

Look at the pipes laying around. Probably they put some pipe down there attached to a compressor, and are having some fun with a Middle Eastern version of a potato gun.

Yep the pipes. EIther having some fun clearing the pipes or they were drilling for water/oil and hit a pocket of gas perhaps.
