Trucker has nightmares after Yowie encounter

Image Credit: CC BY 2.0 Jacqui Barker The 53-year-old, who identifies only as Gary, had been driving across part of Australia's Gold Coast when he was suddenly forced to slam on his brakes to avoid a large bipedal creature that had suddenly emerged from the side of the road in broad daylight.

He stopped and stared in horror as the three-meter-tall creature slammed its arms down on the bonnet of the truck before disappearing back in to the trees almost as quickly as it had appeared.

"It was the worst thing that has ever happened to me," he said. "I tried to push it in the back of my head, and think that was freaky, it just can't be real."

"I just couldn't get it out of my mind, I was having trouble sleeping at night."Known as the Yowie, the creature is believed to be Australia's answer to North America's Bigfoot.

"The whole thing lasted for five seconds, and you are staring this monster in the face watching it to make sure it isn't going to step around at you you are scared for your life," said Gary.

Sadly, however, he was unable to get a picture of the creature.

"I figure it is a one in an million thing... lightning doesn't strike twice," he said.

"On the other hand I would like to see it with a camera just to prove it."
