A delivery truck driver has been struggling to cope after coming face-to-face with a strange creature in the bush.
The 53-year-old, who identifies only as Gary, had been driving across part of Australia's Gold Coast when he was suddenly forced to slam on his brakes to avoid a large bipedal creature that had suddenly emerged from the side of the road in broad daylight.

He stopped and stared in horror as the three-meter-tall creature slammed its arms down on the bonnet of the truck before disappearing back in to the trees almost as quickly as it had appeared.

"It was the worst thing that has ever happened to me," he said. "I tried to push it in the back of my head, and think that was freaky, it just can't be real."

"I just couldn't get it out of my mind, I was having trouble sleeping at night."
Known as the Yowie, the creature is believed to be Australia's answer to North America's Bigfoot.

"The whole thing lasted for five seconds, and you are staring this monster in the face watching it to make sure it isn't going to step around at you you are scared for your life," said Gary.

Sadly, however, he was unable to get a picture of the creature.

"I figure it is a one in an million thing... lightning doesn't strike twice," he said.

"On the other hand I would like to see it with a camera just to prove it."

It's not a conclusion. Records of Aboriginal beliefs, customs, and practices along with various interactions with the colonists are sparse but certainly more than zero. Records do show the British interest in the "hairy man" predates indigenous interest in Australia by half a century. There is certainly no record of such a figure within indigenous culture going back thousands of years as is sometimes claimed. The "hairy man" does have a documented literary history in the West going back hundreds (wodewose, green man) if not thousands of years Beowulf, Esau)... The Yowie expert who "investigate... [More]

This video is interesting and pertinent to this thread.  I chose to put it here rather than begin a new thread with the same title.  Some people may be interested to know that there are some interesting film clips in the beginning that show some "sasquatch" or "wildman" footage.  To sum up the basic idea of the film (which is supported by some interesting scientific information) is that the yowie could be a marsupial.

Guyver no poke at you but gotta love the blobsquatch videos.   Be it yowie or Almasty, bigfoot or whatever name a person gives the concept of the large ( 6' or bigger ) hair covered bipedal hominid i see in every case advocates like to talk about how its in this or thats indigenous peoples histories even like in this case when their history is anecdotal, then again most all so called evidence is anecdotal. I also noticed most times the concept of spiritual or mythical is right there from the start or one doesnt have to go too far back to find it, i was watching bigfootville a documentry and n... [More]

Yes....I thought some were quite interesting, and a step above most blobsquatch videos.  Anyway, I guess you didn't actually watch the clip I posted as the remainder of your comments have nothing to do with it.   Actually "bigfoot" in the USA predates Ray Wallace by a long shot, though the actual term did not derive until the discovery of those prints that made the cover of the Humboldt Times.  Prior to that time the sasquatch, or bigfoot creature that people had been observing or encountering was usually referred to as "wildman."   As far back as the 1920's the term sasquatch was also u... I was already writing my post i made when your post came in and contrary to your assumption i did watch your clip but lets face it, its the same old stuff being said perhaps in a bit different wording than the last guy said it, but nothing new. The clips videos are a "step" above? sorry not for me, there never has been any not one alleged bigfoot film or video that has any use in any scientific capacity, they serve as fodder for true believers, so i dont have a rating in my blobsquatch system that one is better than another if none can prove anything besides some shot a film or video. You beli... [More]

A confounding factor in this case is the length of time between event and documentation. For some unknown reason - an exact time of the event was provided but not the exact date. A partial tran of the phone interview was posted online on the 15th of November and in the full(er) interview provided later the witness states that he didn't tell anyone about the event until a week earlier than that when he told his wife. Presumably the nightmares were before that but maybe not - who can say? Best guess is someday within the first week of November - at least 8 days between event and documentation. H... [More]

Just a quick reminder that there are no large terrestrial Eutherians in Australia. But that most people, even a large number of Australians, don't realise this.
