Mystery foam floods street in Chinese city

Pedestrians were left wading through a knee-deep tidal wave of suds after foam started bubbling from manholes.
The Chinese city of Xi'an was left looking like the aftermath of a snowstorm on Tuesday afternoon after copious quantities of a white, foul-smelling foam started to bubble up from the sewers.

Workers spent the afternoon using pressure hoses to wash away the foam which at one point had managed to cover over 200 meters of one of the city's busiest roads.

The problem was exacerbated by the fact that more foam kept replacing it as it was cleared away.

Officials believe that a cleaning fluid leakage may have been responsible for the mess.
