Baboons at Knowsley Safari Park in Merseyside have reportedly taken to wielding knives and sharp tools.
While having monkeys jumping on top of your car as you drive around the reserve has long been one of the main attractions of going to a safari park, less appealing is the prospect of running into a group of mischievous primates armed with knives, screwdrivers and chainsaws.
According to a recent report however, such a scenario might have actually happened... well, sort of.
Staff at the park raised the alarm after becoming concerned that some visitors were deliberately handing knives and other dangerous items to the monkeys "for a laugh."
It is highly unlikely however that the creatures would actually be able to harm anyone with them.
"The baboons have been found with knives and screwdrivers," said one worker. "I do wonder if it's some of the guests handing them out."
There has even been a report of a baboon lugging around a small chainsaw, however park officials have expressed doubts over whether every such sighting is entirely factual.
"We believe many of these stories have grown in exaggeration as they've been retold, with embellishment to make the objects that are sometimes found in the enclosure seem more exciting and unbelievable," said a park spokesperson.
