The 19-year-old got more than she bargained for when she bit down on the notoriously hard confectionary.
Most people will have eaten (or attempted to eat) a jawbreaker at some point in their lives - a hard, spherical form of candy known for being particularly challenging to consume.

For 19-year-old Canadian student Javeria Wasim, however, the name 'jawbreaker' turned out to be a little too literal when she tucked into the three-inch sweet recently.

Hoping to crack the candy open, she bit down hard on it - which turned out to be a mistake.

Immediately, she felt an intense pain and quickly realized that one of her teeth had come loose.

After it became apparent that she could no longer open or close her mouth without experiencing severe pain, her friend called an ambulance and she was taken to a local hospital.
There, an X-ray confirmed that the jawbreaker had in fact literally broken her jaw.

"I used to have them as a little kid, I've seen videos of people biting into the small ones but I'd never seen anyone bite into the big ones," she told Kennedy News.

"I bit into it and only made a hole and my jaw started to hurt. My friend looked over and said my tooth was chipped. It hurt bad, I was crying a lot when the ambulance came and everything was blurry."

In the end, she had to undergo a surgical procedure to have her jaw set and then fixed in place with metal wire that will need to stay in for more than six weeks.

In the meantime, she is limited to consuming an all-liquid diet.

Sad to see but at the same time I do not have a whole lot of sympathy for her either; she brought this on herself. She should have known better but todays lax parenting and 'modern' education decided to forgo instilling basic common sense.

Wow.  She snapped it precisely on the weakest point - the mandibular symphysis.  She's going to have a lot of pain and delay from having this error put behind her.

That's a big jawbreaker she tried to bite into. This is going to hurt for a while. She's lucky she didn't break more teeth. I hope her jaw heals well for her. What was she thinking?

Typical uni student, I've heard rats beat them at solving mazes so any stupid activity should be expected.
