The bizarre incident saw the man shoot his wife after he became convinced that his life was in danger.
In what is surely one of the strangest court cases we've seen in a while, the accused - 46-year-old Jared Wolfe - is facing seven charges including first-degree murder, carrying a firearm without a license and aggravated assault.

According to court documents, the strangeness began when Wolfe had decided to use some sort of meter to check a statue at his friend's house for paranormal activity and was spooked when it picked up an unexpectedly high reading.

This prompted him to descend into a spiraling state of anxiety and paranoia.

"Wolfe stated he thought that [his wife] Jane White (and the friends) were all trying to kill him and eat him, so he panicked and ran out of the house to retrieve his handgun from his vehicle," police officer Tray Kurtz wrote in his arrest affidavit.

Once at the car, he grabbed the weapon and loaded a live round into the chamber.
When his wife came outside and opened the passenger door, Wolfe turned and fired the gun.

Sadly, her injuries were too severe and paramedics were unable to save her.

After the shooting, Wolfe panicked and drove to his brother's house who subsequently called the police.

It remains unclear exactly what had placed him into such an extreme state of paranoia that he believed his wife and friends had planned to eat him.

Whatever the case, it is likely that he now faces a very lengthy prison sentence.

The paranormal has already become the purest religion for some unstable people. They will believe anything, no matter how ridiculous it is.

I think there has been every conceptual excuse for killing another, one-self and in particular ones spouse. So?

Sounds like undiagnosed schizophrenia, and an active psychotic episode. Really tragic and sad.
