Mystery surrounds how camper van ended up upside-down in France

Image Credit: Ille et Vilaine Gendarmerie / Facebook The bizarre spectacle, which was photographed by police officers near to the city of Saint-Malo at the weekend, saw the camper-van not only turned upside-down, but somehow suspended partially in the air with its front end stuck in a ditch and its rear end resting against overhead cables.

"This spectacular accident occurred this afternoon in the commune of Saint-Meloir-des-Ondes," the police department wrote on Facebook.

"Driver (and passengers? ) [not present] (if they read us, we sincerely hope they are well), we suspect intercession of the Saint in question..."

According to witnesses, the driver and two other people had fled the scene after the accident.Exactly how the vehicle had ended up in such a ridiculous position remains unclear.

The driver of the tow truck who was called out to retrieve the camper van couldn't believe his eyes.

"I've never seen anything like it in my 22-year career," he was quoted as saying.

Investigations remain ongoing.
