Mystery surrounds Argentina's answer to Nevada's 'Extraterrestrial Highway'

What could be behind the phenomenon ? Image Credit: CC BY 2.0 Evelyn Proimos Nevada's State Route 375 - which runs near to Area 51 and is home to numerous eyewitness accounts of UFOs and unexplained phenomenon - needs little introduction.

But in Argentina, there lies a very similar route that has itself been dubbed the 'UFO Highway'.

Officially known as Route 368, the road runs past the town of Capilla del Monte in Cordoba Province and has become something of a hotspot over the years for tales of UFO encounters.

Its reputation was cemented back in 1986 when numerous witnesses reported seeing a bright disc-shaped object in the sky over the nearby Cerro Uritorco mountain.

Similar sightings have since been recorded in the region on a regular basis.There are also frequent reports of strange sounds and of mobile phones inexplicably breaking.

It is allegedly not uncommon for people driving this stretch of road at night to see inexplicable lights twinkling in the sky that are visible for variable periods ranging from seconds to hours.

So great is the lure of the region's mysteries that it even plays host to an annual UFO festival.

Exactly what could be behind these anomalies remains unclear and while some favor an extraterrestrial interpretation, others believe that some sort of plasma phenomenon could be to blame.

Whatever the case, it seems that something strange is definitely happening there.
