A peculiar object resembling a small tripod is present in one photograph of a particular location, but then not in another.
The image, which was captured by NASA's Curiosity rover on August 20th, 2023, is the latest in a series of photographs showing anomalous shapes and shadows on the surface of the Red Planet.
It was spotted by Kari Sivertzen - an anomaly hunter who has highlighted several other strange discoveries in photographs from Mars over the years.
The object, whatever is, looks a bit like a small tripod and has also been described as a "jellyfish".
Oddly, it wasn't present in a separate image of the same location taken a mere one minute beforehand.
Some have speculated that the object was NASA's Ingenuity helicopter drone, but as it turns out, Ingenuity was several thousand miles away at the time the image was taken.
As things stand, there has been no official word from NASA regarding the anomaly.
"Sometimes I spot things that catch my eye, and I share them here," Sivertzen wrote on X.
"I believe there is life on other planets, and since NASA has found potential traces of life on Mars, it's the perfect place to look."
